Triund Trek is one of the most popular weekend treks. It is considered the easiest Himalayan trek and you can do this on your own. It has an altitude of 9,278 ft and is filled with breathtaking views of the Kangra valley and the snow-capped Dhauladhar ranges. The base village for this trek is Dharamkot.  Triund is the ideal destination for those seeking easy yet beautiful trekking in the Himalayas. The trek can easily be during weekends.

Difficulty Level

This trek is rated as easy. It is, therefore, very popular among beginners, and trekkers with little to no experience who can also easily complete this trek.

Best time to visit

It is not advised to trek here in monsoon seasons which are in July and August, and the winters of January and February. Apart from these months and seasons, the Triund trek can be done anytime around the year. The spring and summer seasons which are the months from March to June have the most favorable weather conditions for trekking. The post-monsoon season is ideal for capturing the clearest and best views of the mountain peaks.

Trek time

This trek is covered in two days. On the first days, it takes about 4 hours. And on the second day, it takes around 2 to 3 hours approximately.

Trail information

The trail goes into a forest. After walking for half an hour you will reach the Galu temple clearing. The trail to Triund goes straight past the temple. After you reach the Galu Devi temple, you will see the trekking trail and you will also see the forest checkpoint. After showing your ID and recording all important details you can continue on your trial.

The trail from here is the one with a gentle ascent, it goes through dense oak forests and the steep side of the Laka ridge. As you move forward the trail is a deep gully that goes into a steep section and emerges out on a rocky spur. The Dhauladhar range comes into view here and the pyramidal peak of Mun appearing larger. You will find a few dhabas and cafes here and from here the trail gets steeper.

The trail follows a series of switchbacks and climbs to the Triund ridge through dense forests of rhododendron and oak trees. You soon reach Triund ridge. You can camp here for the day and enjoy the wonderful view from up here. Trek back to Dharamkot from Triund the next day. You will be covering a distance of a minimum of 5 km and it will take around 2 to 3 hours for the same.

•Good trekking shoes are a muto st ensure a comfortable and smooth trekking experience.

• Wear light and comfortable clothes.

• You should stay in a group as there are wild animals in the forests.

• Flashlight with extra batteries

• Carry a double strap backpack, sling bags are not recommended.

•Carry mosquito repellent and sunscreen.

• For emergencies carry raincoats, jackets, first aid, and some extra clothes.

• Stay with the group and don’t wander on your own.

• Take care of your luggage.

• Carry your medicines if any.

• Carry your camera and mobile phones at your own risk.

The trail to Triund is short but not to mention steep. You will, however, forget about the steep ascent because of the refreshing walks surrounded by rhododendron and oak trees. There are also various birds in the forests along the trail which will be a true delight for birdwatchers. As it is an easy trek and is easily accessible and therefore, there is crowding on top during the weekends or holidays. It is more advisable to enjoy this trek on weekdays. This trek is a treat for all adventurers and does not disappoint anyone.
