To keep the body in good health is a duty. Otherwise, we shall not be able to keep the mind strong and clear – Buddha Tips to Stay Healthy During Coronavirus Pandemic
Coronavirus has hit the world so hard and is constantly affecting our health and well-being. People have lost their jobs, businesses, and some have even lost their lives. The world is on a topsy-turvy ride right now due to the pandemic. Many of us are suffering from several physical and mental health issues. We all are confined to the comfort of our houses and are working from home for the last few months.
Our constant sitting jobs make our bodies less active and lazy. To top it all, we are facing fear of getting infected, worrying about the economic conditions, becoming uncertain about the future. The COVID–19 (Coronavirus) pandemic has changed our daily routine and lives. Now, it is much harder to step outside for exercising, shopping, getting groceries, go to work, and do some activities that we enjoy.
Life has become monotonous as we keep on doing the same work while sitting at the same place. Thus, it might be easier to slip into unhealthy habits. It is important not to be too cruel to ourselves and take a good care of our health. We should start taking small steps towards introducing healthier routines into your life.
SYMPTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS
Coronavirus has become a serious issue around the globe. People are frightened and the cases are increasing like hell. Though the mortality rate in India is just 1.8%, but there is a risk. This deadly disease has the following symptoms:
- Shortness of Breath
Some patients who are asymptomatic can be treated by staying in isolation for 2 weeks. This means that one has to stay in home quarantine for a period of 14 days. In more severe cases, Coronavirus can cause:
- Kidney Failure
- Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
The Doctors recommend the following ways to prevent the spread of Coronavirus:
- Avoiding close contact with people, maintaining social distancing.
- Avoiding touching our eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Washing hands quite often for at least 20 seconds.
- Sanitizing hands using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% of alcohol.
MEAURES TO BE TAKEN TO STAY HEALTHY
When we are at home and have enough time, we tend to eat more junk and be at a risk of gaining weight. It is quite easy to graze on the snacks when we’re working and spending time at home. We should know that maintaining a healthy and balanced diet is important to stay fit.
We should plan for three healthy meals a day. Junk food is not always bad, it is okay to eat less healthy food every now and then, but eating well is really good for our wellbeing and can make us feel better. Breakfast is the most meal of the day. We often hear people saying that one must eat breakfast ‘like a king’. This is because a rich breakfast keeps us going through the day. After a “king size breakfast”, the lunch should be mediocre and the dinner must be light. Our breakfast may include oats, cornflakes, eggs etc. to make it healthy as well as tasty.
2.Taking a Sound Sleep
Getting a proper 8-hour sleep is essential to develop a healthy physical and mental health. It is difficult to maintain a fixed sleep pattern when we are at home. This happens because we often take short naps during work breaks or while sitting idle. Anxiety and stress may hamper our sleep time and we might have sleepless nights, but we need to control our thoughts & emotions and take a proper sleep.
It is important to review the bedtime routine during these days. At least 2 hours prior to the bedtime, we should reduce the use of electronic gadgets, caffeine, alcohol, etc. Instead, we should be involved in some refreshing activities like reading, writing, enjoying soft music, taking a shower, etc. Sleep plays an important role in immune system’s functioning, metabolism and enhances our learning ability. It is a process which helps us to stock up the energy for the upcoming day.
3.Talking to Loved Ones
Maintaining Mental Health along with Physical Health is equally important. Even if we are far away from our friends and extended families, it is essential to stay in touch via messages, video & audio calls, group chats, etc. This indeed makes us feel relieved and we start feeling better even if we had a tiring work day. Asking them about their feeling and telling about ours would give us a relieved feeling.
These days, we are hearing news of people slipping into depression or committing suicide. This happens because they are constantly fighting for survival due to some or the other reasons. Lending an ear to someone who needs to talk can do wonders for them. People might actually feel that they have a support when we listen to them. We may not be able to solve their problems, but we can always boost their morale.
4.Starting Positive Self-Talks
Self-care is really important in order to stay fit and healthy. A major aspect of self-care is “self”. This means how we view ourselves and, how we talk to ourselves. We should start praising ourselves from time to time. Appreciating small tasks that we do during the day, complimenting ourselves, saying “good job” to one’s own self.
Whether it is a work task, exercising, dealing with Manager’s bitter words, or anything else, self-appreciation and positive self-talk is always important. It might feel a bit weird at first, but our brain will initially soak up the self-care goodness. Research shows this can turn our negative feelings and thoughts into positive ones. If we start talking to ourselves, we can solve many issues within ourselves that would indeed relax our mind.
Our stressful lives have made our minds weaker. Many people get stressed very easily and may have anxiety issues too. We just need to take some time out for meditating and releasing stress. No special space or equipment is required for this; we can practice it anytime, anywhere. In other words, meditation is thinking deeply or focusing your mind for a set period of time.
The benefit: Meditation can help reduce stress, ease symptoms of depression and anxiety, and regulate negative thinking. If you’re looking for another tool to add to your arsenal to combat stress, consider it. Just as with deep breathing, you’ll be happy to know there’s no shortage of meditation apps available.
Physical well-being is the most important aspect to stay healthy. Lockdown has made us lazy as we are confined to our cosy homes and not going out. Also, most of us are constantly preparing and eating new dishes; due to which we might be at a risk of gaining weight. Hence, it is essential to sweat it out!
All the gyms are temporarily closed and one cannot go out for exercising, but we can always work out at home and stay fit. Squats, planks, push-ups, Yoga, etc. can be practiced on a daily basis in order to stay healthy. Starting the work-out routine at home is about forming good habits and setting goals for oneself. But, it is also important to understand that we should not try to do too much at once. We don’t need to have all exercise equipment ready at home, we can easily do some simple exercises at home.
Nature is healing and so we should contribute to make it better. Staying healthy and keeping ourselves is one such way. As discussed above, there are many ways in which we can maintain our physical as well as mental health. Above all the ways, comes our inner peace and happiness. Avoid negativity and make way for positivity. You will feel better than ever. At the end, I would like to say that don’t let your spirits die, we will come out of this soon.
The preservation of health is easier than the cure of the disease.
