Kedarkantha trek is often misunderstood as Kedarnatha trek but is as much as popular. The summit climb is one of the most reasons for the popularity of the trek. The climb is a little hard and steep and will require a lot of effort to complete. Outside the summit, it’s beautiful as well. The clearings, the openings, and the meadows make it all the more beautiful and visit-worthy. You’ll find beautiful forests everywhere throughout the trek. It is known as the best snow trek in India and it definitely justifies its title.
One can find Kedarkantha in Government wildlife Sanctuary which is in the Uttarkashi district. Sankri is the small village from where the climb starts.
It’s an easy-moderate trek. The trek is 6-7 days long. The altitude is at 14,000 ft. The climb is a little steep and you need to be careful.
Day 1: DEHRADOON TO SANKRI (210 kms) – 8 hours drive
Day 2: TREK TO JUDA TALAB (2850 m) – 10 kms
Day 3: JUDA TALAB TO KEDAR KANTH MEADOW – 6 kms
Day 4: KEDARKANTHA PEAK (3850 m) AND TREK BACK TO SANKRI
Day 5: SANKRI TO DEHRADUN (210 kms)
During the summer months, the weather is cool and pleasant making it more ideal for sightseeing. During the Monsoon season, this region receives moderate to heavy rainfall and the temperature is relatively cooler than in summers. However, the place often experiences landslides around this time which makes it difficult to trek here and the trail also becomes sloppy. So monsoon is not preferred for trekking. During the Autumn seasons the temperature is very low. This is a pleasant time for trekking.
Winter is the best time to visit and brings the best of the Kedarkantha trek and welcomes trekkers from all over the globe. During this time, the temperature here remains in the range of -2 degrees celsius to 12 degrees Celsius and the place gets covered in thick snow. The whole region offers a great, surreal, and dreamy view, which is bound to captivate you.
In December, begins the fresh snowfall in Kedarkantha. As this place has easy accessibility, a huge number of people from far and near flock to this place during this period and enjoys themselves amidst the mesmerizing scenic beauty.
In January there is frequent snowfall in this place which adds thrill to this amazing experience. At this time, the slopes also make the place perfect for skiing. February has very high chances of snowfall which makes the experience even more memorable and thrilling.

Best time to visit Kedarkantha Trek
Although the destination remains cold throughout the year, the months of winter which are December, January, February, and March bring the maximum snowfall in and make this the best time to trek on this mountain. During this time, the place remains cold and the temperature drops below the freezing point.
As the region receives frequent and very heavy snowfall, the weather of this place becomes absolutely chilly and wet. Even though this makes trekking a little bit difficult, yet the excitement, thrill, and adventure become double. The lofty snow-capped mountain trails along with the enchanting vistas, attract a large number of tourists and trekkers to the destination during this part of the year.
